I am studying for the ACCA independently. I am not in a training contract. My background is running my own eBay business.
I do not have a Bachelors degree but I am doing the Oxford Brookes BSc. I anticipate to complete the ACCA in March 2021. I am concerned about applying for my first entry position.
I have contacted several accountancy recruitment companies. They are looking for candidates with accountancy work experience. I have contacted approximately 50 local small accountancy firms. They said they have no vacancies.
I am really stuck and do not know how to proceed.
Does the ACCA have careers advisers who may be able to help?

September 20, 2020 at 1:33 pm #586249Thanks Kim. I’ve actually looked at those pages already. The problem is I don’t have accountancy work experience. The roles listed on the ACCA Careers section are for people already working in accountancy who are part qualified. Positions with accountancy recruiters (Robert Half, Reed Accountancy etc…) are the same. I spoke to a Kaplan tutor and they said contact firms directly.
I’ve already contacted approximately 50 local small firms. They have all said they do not have vacancies.I can continue to complete my ACCA independently. But what do I do when I’m qualified.
I do not wish to abandon my ACCA but I feel concerned about my future.

October 4, 2020 at 3:53 pm #587349Have you tried volunteering work in acountancy? I.e. work for a charity in their accountancy department, even if its just book keeping.
Once recruiters see this on your CV, even if you only did it for 3-6 months on the weekends, then you are more likely to be put forward for accountancy roles within a company even if you start as a temp. Bear in mind though, you might not get/ work for a company that offers study support, but you can get good real life accountancy work.
This is the journey I’ve been on, and now 2 years on with the same company I began as a temp. Fully employed. Now I just need to get these exams under my belt.
