Hey there
So my tutor for P3 has consistently insisted that we quote from the exam question. Like for every statement we make we must quote evidence of it from the scenario.
This tutor is someone I really respect but I do feel that he is wrong here. Like why do I need to quote what is already there and waste my time doing that? Especially in a paper which is so well timed (like every ACCA paper ever)
So basically, Do I need to quote the question? Like eg. 1 (below) or do I write it like eg 2 (below)
Eg. 1. “In 2012 MFP was the eighth largest shop and supermarket chain in Arboria. It reported revenues of $10bn, compared to the $40·5bn revenue of the market leader”
The business appears to operate in a very competitive environment as there are a number of companies making significant amounts of revenue
Eg 2. The business appears to operate in a very competitive environment as there are a number of companies making significant amounts of revenue
So which approach is better? Approach one doesent seem like it adds any value to the answer. Approach 2 is a lot more to the point while making reference to the scenario as well.
Do I need to quote the scenario?
October 30, 2017 at 11:10 pm #413801Your statements are not equivalent. Eg1 has important info bout relative sizes. This needs to be interpreted not quoted. I suggest:
The business operates in a very competitive environment. It is only 8th by size and its revenue is only 25% of the largest competitor. This suggests that the company will find it difficult to compete effectively on a cost basis against larger rivals who will have greater, economies of scale.
