I did my P3 exam today and failed – which is really frustrating as I thought I had done well. I think the “Tick all that apply”, “Tick 2/3” tripped me up.
I had a couple of questions about a manager and a supervisor and their different roles. Can you tell me what the difference is? Is a supervisor the equivalent of a FC and a manager just a person that reports into them like the AP manager or something?

For ‘All that apply’ questions, it can be helpful to first pick the options you think are right and justify why you think they are right, then go through all the ones you think are wrong and really try to justify why they are wrong.
A manager ranks above a supervisor.
For example, when I was studying to become an accountant, I worked for a big audit firm. There each job had:
A partner in charge or audit partner – who had the ultimate responsibility.
A manager – who would usually stay in the office and organise staffing, timing etc and undertake day-to-day liaison with clients. The manager would also carefully review the audit work after completion but before it was reviewed by the partner
A supervisor – who would go out on each audit and be in close control of the audit team (typically 2 or 3 people). The supervisor would set detailed tasks and each day would ensure that they had been done properly. The supervisor would present the finished work to the manager and also get guidance about serious problems encountered.
The audit staff (or cannon fodder) who did all the work. Audit staff would be overseen in detail by the supervisor and might not have a great deal to do with managers.
