Just some context; I finished the Diploma in Accounting and Business around end of 2019. After the pandemic hit, I was inclined to stop my studies and pursue to work full-time, as I come from a low income family. I’ve since then become an accounts assistant, market researcher and now office admin.

After a lot of back and forth with what I wanted to do in terms of careers, I intend to resume my ACCA studies, as I feel this was what gave me the most leverage in the job market.

But tuition where I’m currently living in (Middle East) is quite expensive for me. I plan to buy the textbooks and revision kits online, and study along with free resources such as OT, ACCA past papers and the good old Youtube. Will also have to revise some basic concepts because I haven’t touched a book since prior to the pandemic.

Where and how do I begin to brush up on my basic accounting knowledge? I hope to finish revising FA & MA within 2-3 months, so I can start studying for PM/FR, exam intake in September/December.

Any further advices is accepted. Thank you so much!

Welcome back! And be assured OT is here to support you. For any non-exam-specific questions, such as the one you have just asked, this is the forum for you. For exam-specific queries, use the relevant tutor forum https://opentuition.com/forum/ask-acca-tutor-forums (or student forum if you want a response from other students).

Good news on lots of fronts for FREE resources.

First, think about your journey https://opentuition.com/acca/plan-your-acca-exam-journey and whether you might want to do FR before PM.

To get going and revise, only as necessary, assumed knowledge, head over to the Student Virtual Learning Centre https://studentvirtuallearn.accaglobal.com. Go to “Get Ready Modules”, then select PM, or FR, whichever you plan to start with.

If you need to, there is a course you can follow in the SVLC – or you can refer to our notes/lectures and other resources on the assumed topics e.g. for Performance Management https://opentuition.com/acca/pm. Note that the contents pages of our notes are linked to the chapters, for ease of navigation.

Once you’re ready to start on a new exam, you don’t need to buy a text book or revision kit unless you specifically want a hardcopy – the ACCA’s Study Hub content includes an entire text as well as extensive Q practice https://www.accaglobal.com/gb/en/student/your-study-options/studyhub.html

Hi Kim, thank you for your reply! Appreciate it. Will look into all those resources.

However, can you give any resources or advices on how or where to brush up on the basics (specifically topics in MA and FA), as I don’t remember anything accounting related.

Yes – that is already in my response – sorry for not being clear. The SVLC is the resource to look at. The get ready module for PM revises MA and the FR module revises FA. The modules start with MCQ quizzes on the relevant topics – the answers have justifications if you get them wrong. If after finishing a quiz on a particular topic you are not happy that you remember enough, there are then lectures you can turn to. Hopefully it will be self-explanatory once you look at it.
