Hi,
I will be preparing for the Atx paper soon using kaplan study material.
Would it be useful to go over the tx lectures and notes as a refresh and if so any particular areas/lectures I should concentrate on?
Thanks

ATX comprises about 40% of the TX information.
TX is all the basics – the tax complicance and how to calculate tax etc
ATX is all about applying that information to certain scenarios and being able to communicate the information to clients and managers.
So yes it’s vital.
ATX: IHt ususally goes with CGT as they are both capital taxes so look at them together.
You’ll rarely get a CA comp or a full adjustment of profits but you might be asked about starting/ending a business or alternatives – should I be a sole trader or a Ltd Co.Good luck with your exam and if you need advice get in touch.
It’s a tough paper that requires timing skills (You are unlikely to finish), communication skills and the ability to spot what you can and cannot answer.

July 4, 2023 at 10:18 pm #687635Hi, does Open Tuition not provide any videos/notes for the ATX paper?
July 5, 2023 at 10:48 am #687659Unfortunately not as it’s a specialist paper that few take.
You can start your learning by going thru the TX notes again to get you started.
Then I suggest a Kaplan text book to work through – I use that to teach ATX to my students – and as the exam stucture has changed get an exam kit too.
Practice and exam technique is key to ATX as its a very tough paper and you are unlikely to finish it but it is possible to pass first time. All the best
