Moltres89 has won genius title in Decembeer 2009 exams in paper P6! is now an affiliate and studies for ICAEW!
Can you tell us more about yourself and your work?
Right now I’ve started my articleship! I’m currently on probation and haven’t gotten a contract yet but lets see. I’m still confused whether I should continue ahead with articles or join an org, hence not in a hurry for a contract.
Many users are working just like you, how do you balance between studying, job and private life?
During my acca I was a full time student! I started working after I qualified. I am giving an extra option paper this june. During weekdays I study during my office lunch break. On weekends I revise and practice questions.
Any particular method – as a working student – works for you?
I’m still trying to study after office but work is too tiring! :/
So it’s just weekends for me.
You have been a member of OpenTuition for a very long time now, how did you first time find out about this site?
A friend recommended it to me. I tried it and joined! I haven’t been a regular visitor but ever since I qualified I make sure I come to the site everyday!
What resources are the most valuable to you on OpenTuition and/or helped you most on OpenTuition?
To be honest I haven’t gone through OpenTuition notes. I remember only getting the F9 notes. I study from both BPP and FTC (I prefer the latter). However I do recommend the notes for revision, something I rarely got the time to do!
What do you think could improve OpenTuition even more?
Slowly and steadily it will improve. What I really want that is in the near future OpenTuition will be used as an advertisement for accounting jobs in various countries. I believe this is the most effective way to reach to the accounting population, which is increasing day by day. Not only that, I hope firms and organizations will use OpenTuition as a forum to interact with students and both parties can get to know each other better. THAT would be cool!
What other study materials do you use? Anything you can recommend?
I just go for the books and kit. Don’t really get time to explore other resources although I occasionally skim through business newspapers, esp financial times, a great way to stay in touch with the business world. I also recommend students to read all the articles on SA, in particular those by the examiners. They are very useful and informative. Shows you what they want!
You are now affiliate, what are you plans now? New job? When are you applying for membership?
I’m still young (hehehe) so I’m not in a particular hurry for a job or applying for membership. I would like to further my studies and go for other professional qualifications. I’m planning on giving CFA Level I in December; let’s see how that works out!
What values does ACCA membership gives you in your career?
Amongst other things, flexibility. Not only is ACCA a competent and challenging professional qualification, it opens a pathway of opportunities for you. You can stick to choose with ACCA or you can go on to do other qualifications e.g. CFA, ICMA etc. Plus you can also work in an org of your choice and complete your articles there.
For ACA you HAVE to be with an ATO but the same is not the case with ACCA. Plus the BSC Degree is also a bonus! It can also be used to enter into MBA programs so really you have tons of choices, which can be confusing so I would advise people to plan what they want to do after ACCA right now. No point in waiting till the end! That’s what I learned!
Also my advice would be to DEFINITELY do something after ACCA, be it MBA or another qualification!
Why did you decide to study for this (ICAEW) qualification? Is not ACCA enough in your work/market place?
To be honest there’s not much studying involved if I go for the ICAEW qualification after my ACCA, I just need to give three extra papers and I already have the knowledge for them. I am of the opinion that if I’m going to work in a firm for three years, why not do my ICAEW training instead of ACCA. They are almost identical. My articles will be counted for ACCA so it’s really a 2-in-1 thing! But as I said, I’m still not sure whether I will stay in a firm for now. Let’s see! I’m confused most of the times!
Are you planning to do OBU MBA?
No time soon! Three (hopefully!) qualifications should be more than enough. Even if I do intend on doing my MBA, it won’t be for another 6 or 7 years.
