This page explains the cookies and similar technologies OpenTuition uses, and how you can control them. You can change your consent at any time using the “Manage cookies” / privacy-settings link shown by our consent banner.
What are cookies?
Cookies are small text files a website stores on your device. We group them by purpose below. Only strictly necessary cookies load without your consent; everything else loads only after you agree via the consent banner.
Strictly necessary
Required for the site to work (login, security, your consent choice). These do not need consent.
| Cookie(s) | Provider | Purpose | Duration |
|---|---|---|---|
wordpress_logged_in_* |
WordPress | Keeps you signed in. | Session |
wp-settings-* |
WordPress | Remembers admin / editor preferences. | 1 year |
consent choice |
Google CMP | Stores your cookie-consent decision. | Up to 13 months |
Functional
Power community / forum features when you use them.
| Cookie(s) | Provider | Purpose | Duration |
|---|---|---|---|
bp-*, bb-* |

Analytics
OpenTuition uses self-hosted Matomo in cookie-less mode, so no analytics cookies are set and no consent is needed for analytics.
Marketing
Set by Google ads and YouTube — only after you consent via the cookie banner, and (for lecture videos) only once you click to load a video.
| Cookie(s) | Provider | Purpose | Duration |
|---|---|---|---|
IDE, DSID, __gads, __gpi, ANID |
Google AdSense / Ad Manager | Measure and personalise ads (after consent). | Up to 13 months |
VISITOR_INFO1_LIVE, YSC, yt-* |
YouTube | Set when you click to play a lecture video. | Session – 6 months |
Managing your cookies
Use the “Manage cookies” link from our consent banner to change or withdraw consent at any time. You can also block or delete cookies in your browser settings (Chrome, Firefox, Safari and Edge each have a privacy / cookies section), though some features may then not work.
