Interview with Olof, June 2015 F8 Genius Hunt Winner, who scored 88%

Please tell us in which country you live, and what work do you do

I am from Sweden but have lived in Scotland since 2011. I am currently working as a financial accountant for a recruitment agency, where I started as a credit controller and then as a payroll officer.

How much time each week did you spend studying, on average?

Maybe 10 hours for F8 and F9.

Which study resources did you use?

I watched the lectures on Open Tuition, read all the technical articles, skimmed through Kaplan text book and also used www.acowtancy.com a bit. However, most used was the revision kit from BPP.

Did you get support from your firm?

No, not at the time. However, they have started supporting me now by reimbursing costs for exams and study materials going forward, as well as two days study leave per exam.

What was your approach to your studying?

Firstly I watched all the lectures on open tuition and skimmed through the text book. I then spent lots of time doing questions from the revision kit. Since English isn’t my first language and F8 is a written exam it was important to prepare thoroughly. I did all the questions in the revision kit at least once and always had an eye on the time. I answered pretty much as I would do in an exam, ie writing proper sentences rather than just scribble down a few key words.

What would you say was the most important factor that helped you to achieve such a high mark?

The time and effort spent on revision.

How did you find out about OpenTuition, and which of our resources did you use?

I have used Open Tuition for F2-F9 and passed all exams in first attempt with an average mark of around 86. I think I found Open Tuition via Google and I mainly use the lectures + notes.
