But the password or other way of accessing that particular application is an application control
Unique user IDs and passwords can be general IT controls or information processing (“application”) controls, depending on what it is they are controlling access to.
If restricting access to an IT system, they are are general. If restricting access to a specific information process (“application”) e.g. the payroll, they are information processing controls.
