Hi, Is it important to learn the advantages and disadvantages of certain things in the syllabus?
And is there any use in reading the textbook. It has a lot of information which is guess would not be tested in the exam.

I recommend first thinking about these issues on a common-sense basis then seeing if you can improve and develop your answer by backing it up with theory or using a theory to structure your answer. It has been rare for you to be told to use a specific theory, but see Q3 Sept/Dec 2019 that required the Balridge model.
Theories are important and this is not an exam in just common sense: the topics in the syllabus will be examined. However, the emphasis is on examining through application and you will get enough theory detail by reading our notes and listening our lectures: faster than reading a textbook.
As to pros and cons, I think that the disadvantages are particularly important as these often contain drawbacks or practical problems in applying a model and knowing these can be important when giving advice.
