There is a substantitive procedure for payroll cost: “Cast a sample of payroll records to confirm completeness and accuracy of the payroll expense”. I want to ask the correct meaning of the word ” cast” here: Does it mean ” describe” or ” sum up” or another meaning?

It always means ‘add up’ or ‘sum up’.
