Hi john sir..help me with the following question.
A worker’ basic hours in a day are 9 to 6 with an hour for lunch. He is paid $10 an hour.
Yesterday, he worked 8 to 7. Any overtime is paid for time and quarter.
Calculate the earning of the worker for the day.
Sir, i calculated 115 ..but answer is 105…in answer idle time payment is not included..whereas in book life we always pay for total hours..plz guide meIdle time is time when the worker is not able to work (because, for example, the machines break down) but still has to be paid.
Here, he is only expected to be working 8 hours a day (because he has one hour for lunch) and so will only normally be paid for 8 hours. On this particular day he will be paid for 10 hours (or which 2 hours are overtime). The hour for lunch is not idle time and is not paid for.
Whaaat?…lunch time is not idle time? But sir in manu books even in kaplan bpp it is written that lunch time, tea breaks is also idle time..and idle time should b paid..so this is confusing me
Tea breaks are idle time.
However lunch hours can be treated as being idle or not being idle – it depends on the pay agreement with the workers. Exam questions will make it clear whether or not they are being paid for that hour.
