    Dear Sir,

My question relates to exam technique, which is very important for P4.

Thus, part (a) asks to EVALUATE alternative 2 using NPV, DPB, IRR and MIRR and part (c) asks to EVALUATE both alternatives and recommend.

The BPP answer shows for (a) only calculations – leaving comments to (c).

However, as per the ACCA article on question verbs:
“Evaluate – Intellectual level 3 Actual – meaning Determine the scenario in the
light of the arguments for and against Key tips Mention evidence/case/point/
    issue to support evaluation.”

So, basically, when I see the word “Evaluate” – I should NOT just calculate.

Please clarify whether I should have put comments to part (c) as per the BPP answer making in (a) only calculations.

I suspect that this is a non-ACCA question and thus I should not pay such an attention to the exam technique aspects related thereto. Am I correct?

Though, please clarify whether such issues are possible at a real exam.

    Thank you in advance.

You are correct in saying that the question was invented by BPP.

Yes – the word “evaluate” implies both calculating and commenting.

Most exam questions however tend to say “evaluate and comment” which then removes any confusion 🙂
