    Hi Sir,

I will sit on Jun 2014 exam. I am a self-study student in HK. I have already made the revision for lecture notes and studied three years passpaper from Jun 2012 – Dec 2013 (included pilot paper). But I found that the exam format have already changed. It is four questions instead of five questions now. And the exam is focus on calculation rather than prepare the report format. At this moment, I am no idea how to prepare my exam. I don’t want to get the fail. Please kindly advise and help me. Many thanks.

Yes the exam format has changed.

However, the compulsory question still does require a report. Also, there is still a substantial amount of discussion – discussion counted for around 50% of the marks in the compulsory question on last times exam.

If there was a magic way of passing then nobody would ever fail.

Just looking at the last three years exams is not enough. You must get hold of an Exam/Revision Kit from one of the approved publishers and keep practicing questions. Don’t just learn the calculations – the marks are for proving that you understand what you are doing (there is rarely one correct answer for the calculations – it depends on making sensible assumptions, as in real life) and so it is not simply a question of learning the ‘rules’.
