Which of the following is the name used for the person who commences a civil action?
A. Appellant
B. Plaintiff
C. Claimant
Answer = C
I am struggling to understand the difference between the terms Plaintiff and Claimant. I have tried searching the internet and I cannot find significant difference between the two. Please can you help?
Also, apologies if you have answered this question for other people!
It seems that the Civil Procedures Rules of 1999 have replaced the title “plaintiff” with the title “claimant”

Beyond what’s there I wouldn’t bother – in fact I can’t believe that this was ever a past exam question!
Hope that helps
