    Hi
    Got 49 in F8 December 09 exam.
It is about a mark only to pass, can anyone tell me if there is any option to request ACCA for re-checking my paper. And will there be any fees involve and time frame to file a request?
And if anyone has any experience of related to re-check request, I mean is it any good or feasible? Do ACCA change their verdict?

Appreciate if anyone can advice and share experience.

    Thank you

I’m in exactly the same boat as you! Being 1mark off is very disappoiting. I had a look on the ACCA website and it says about an administrative review that costs £45. I quote from the website:

‘The administrative reviews allow ACCA to ensure transparency and fairness, and are available for all qualifications that are assessed by exam. However, this is not a re-marking service.’

Not quite sure what the transparency and fairness means so if anyone can shed some light it would be much appreciated.

We are in the same boat…, I am really disappointed too got 49.

according to Stace, it is not a remarking service.

does it mean that they will recount our points ? or will they recorrect the paper entirely?

I was pretty sure of passing this paper, dont know how come i got 49 :?

It costs £45 to have the admnistrative review. I’m assuming they’ll just make sure the marks are added up correctly and transferred to the final mark sheet correctly. I don’t know what else it could mean.

looks like it is a bit useless, dont you think ? :(

I myself got 47 in F8, and re check in my point of view is just a waste of money. As ACCA performs a strong check during exams and for the marks between 45-49 special attention is given to make sure that the student is going to pass or not.

So better to re appear instead of wasting £45 to acca.

Don’t think it means that the mark changes, as far as I know an administrative rewiew will go through your paper and comment on where you missed out on the marks!!

There is Administrative Review , Fees 45 pounds , in case your pass this fees will be returned.

I think a good idea would be to check what you remember putting in the exam against the dec 09 answers to see if you think you should have passed, if you think yes then opt for the admin review (this is providing the answers come out before the deadline of the admin review)

They will not check your paper again. Just add the marks.
In my point of view, its a waste of time & money.
Marks will not be published to students unless they are double checked.

Looks like we are doomed guys/girls …

I have also noticed that the pass rate for f8 paper has increased to 50%
I think it has also increase the frequency pass rate on the curve.
Hence it is harder to pass on dec 09 exams

Administrative Review looks like a waste of time and money as suggested by many others.

    Better Learn and Pass.
Thnx for all the replies, it helped me much and opened my eyes.
Good Luck and all the best

one should know that the conceptual base is required to pass each acca paper particularly f8. when one fails at 49 it means that one has shown some basic conceptual mistake for example if i got the whole paper right but in between i wrote "the auditor certified or guranteed that financial statements are true and fair" then he will fail despite the fact how much perfectly he has done the remaining paper
after checking the paper the marker evaluates the worth of whole conceptualy and then award pass or fail some students got 50 in f8 so the question arises that what is a difference in 49 and 50 the difference is about the approach and concepts

once my teacher of f8 said that if a students got 70 marks in f8 but put a fundamental mistake like above the examiner will fail him

so do not worry forget about it i can understand that after failing at 49 one can think what could i do to pass the paper but you should know that this is not the lack of knowledge may be time pressure because in f8 hardly any student got the chance to reread the paper
about adm review one of my friend studied at lca london failed at 49 in p7 and got the review but of no avail
the acca will not change the result
so forget about it and take the challenge to pass f8 best of luck
